The inhabitants of the forests hunt the rhinoceros. Four to five men take solid bamboos of which the point is hardened in fire. They go into the places where the animal is found and by shouting and clapping of hands they try to make it leave their hiding places. When they see the furious animal, which opens and closes its mouth in succession, they start to point the ends of the bamboo sticks towards the mouth of the animal, and at the right time, they throw their weapon into the mouth and throat of the animal with surprising agility. They shake their weapons left and right. The animal dies with terrible convulsions.

Thailand. Many virtues are attributed to the horn, and even the hide, however thick and tough it is, is regarded as a delicacy and fortifies weak people. The hide is grilled, then scraped together and cut into pieces, and then it is boiled with spices for a long time to make it into a gelatinous and transparent substance. I have eaten it many times with pleasure and the same procedure could probably be used to eat the hides of other animals.
