
Oil painting of rhinoceros dated 1821. This is probably Tourniaire’s Rhinoceros exhibited in different places in Germany. Painting sold by Sotheby’s in 2002:
signed and dated lower right C.K.j./pxt: 1821 oil on canvas There is an inscription on the reverse of the canvas that reads, Das Asiatische Nashorn./Rhinoceros Asiaticus.Mas./Höhe:6’2″./Länge: 11’10″/ Alt:5 1/2 Jahr/ fr (np?)s :Sch/ C.Kehrer.jun:/ad vivum pinxit. Kehrer was known as both a painter and a draughtsman of wildlife and hunting scenes. He provided illustrations for the Taschenbuch für Forst und Jagdschriftsteller [The Handbook for Lovers of Forestry and Hunting] written by the famous chronicler of hunting, K. F. v. Wildungen. He was also given a commission from King Friedrich I of Württemberg to decorate the moose-house with hunting scenes.
