A handsome period colored print from Johannus Jonstonius’ (1603-75) “Historia Naturalis de Quadrupedibus” originally published in 1649. This is from a 1657 Amsterdam edition. The original print is distinguished by a left orientation with Tab XXXVIII in the upper right corner and title of Hornnafe Rhinocer above. Matthäus Merian the Elder (1593-1650) concieved & engraved the print probably in Frankfurt/Main.
