George F. Getz operated the Lakewood zoo from 1929 thru 1933. The Great Depression forced him out of business and the animals were distributed locally. The pictured Black rhino arrived at Lakewood in April of 1929 and was donated to the Brookfield Zoo in 1933. The rhinoceros was trucked on or about October 28th but died on November 9, 1933 at the Brookfield Zoo.
