Zoo Berlin, Male 'Kibo', 35 years old, Diceros bicornis. He was unable to mate with a female. We therefore tried to collected semen from him by electroejaculation and to preserve them. Although this method is used for many zoo animals, it usually fails in black rhino. The animal was anesthized, people from the zoo together with experts from USA and UK were able to collect a good quantity of sperm of high quality by use of a specially designed rectal probe [rektalsonde]. Also the deepfreezing was successful.
