The Sumatran rhinoceros in Ulu Selama

We were extraordinarily lucky to obtain numerous photos of a mature female Sumatran rhino in the Bintang Hijau Forest Reserve, Ulu Selama, Perak. The animal was drinking from a small hpot spring, and by approaching from behind a large boulder, we were able to observe it from a distance of 5 meters for nearly five minutes. Track records, ranging from 250 to 850 m above sea level, and occasional sightings by rotan collectors suggest that perhaps 6 animals occupy the reserve.
