The last black rhino was seen in 1936, and has not yet returned to the park.

The white rhino was returned in 1961. In 1896, just before the reserve was established, the last specimen was shot. The 100 animals taken to Kruger before 1968 have produced 25 young until that year, so that the number in 1968 was 125. For better observation, a group is kept in a fenced 260 ha area at Pretoriuskop.
