Survey August-October 1986 - Ceratotherium simum. Total sample 28, comprising of 15/8 adult, 2 subadult males (estimated 2-3 yrs old), 2 yearling females, 1 juvenile male. Recorded in regions A,B,C,D,F - 46,4 % of rhinos classified were in region C. [these regions are the southern part of the park] The 1986 aerial count of white rhino in KNP exceeded 1000 for the first time on record and the total of 1179 represented a 26.0 % increase over the 1985 count.

Social units: 9 lone adult male, 2 bachelor groups each comprising 2 adult male, 1 pair (adult male + adult female), 1 pair pf adult female and juvenile male, 2 pairs of adult female and yearling female, 1 association of 2 adult female + 2 sub-adult male, 1 association of 2 adult female accompanied by 1 adult male.
