Last year Sudanese rebels wanting money for arms invaded Garamba NP and slaughtered rhinoceros almost to the point of extinction.

From the West Nile population, 11 white rhino were taken, in two operations, to Mrchison Falls NP in 1961 and 1964. The FPS has suggested that a third Operation Rhino should be mounted to bring more of these animals to Murchison.
