“Rhinoceros Africanus” – the African (Black) rhinoceros

The author encountered both Black and White rhinoceros during a 1836-7 South African hunting expedition. The author noted seeing a group of 22 White rhinos a half mile distant from the Limpopo River. And, Black rhinoceros were often seen in groups of 5-6 individuals with daily totals numbering around sixty.
