The famous Parisian editor Pierre Mariette (1634-1716) commissioned Nicolas Chaperon to copy Raphael’s fresco ‘The creation of the animals’ and the rest of the Loggia series when he went to Rome in 1642. He was most likely inspired by the engraving by Villamena of 1626. The rhino head, is in lower right behind a camel.
