This Düreresque rendition of the rhino was published in 1785 one of two pages of Quadrupeds, engraved by Rennoldsen and published by Alex. Hogg in London. It is significant that Dürer’s inaccurate image remained a popular symbol well after many had already seen what the animal actually looked like and that numerous realistic prints had also been published.
