In a recent past, a Pleistocene rhino vertebra was found along a bank of the torrente Stirone (Parma, Northern Italy). The remains were confidently ascribed to Stephanorhinus hemitoechus (Falconer). From the Stirone stream also comes the well-known skull assigned to Stephanorhinus hemitoechus (Cigala-Fulgosi, 1976).
