Chapter 45. On the rhinoceros.
1. That the rhinoceros is by its size well matched to the hippopotamus. It lives near the Niles (and) comes out of the ocean. All over its nose it has a horn like a sword by which it can pierce even a rock, and with which it often kills an elephant.
2. That all rhinoceroses are male, but where from they are begotten is not clear to anyone.
3. That among the Indians they are called oxen, but those coming to the Nile are called rhinoceroses.
