Prince of Wales arrived in Baroda (by train from Bombay) on the morning of Friday 19 November 1875. He was welcomed by the Guicowar and Sir Madhava Rao. After some time in the Residency, the Prince drove through the native city to the old palace, where his Royal Highness witnessed exciting scenes in the arena, consisting of wrestling, and elephant, rhinoceros, buffalo, and ram fights. There were enormous crowds in the city, the streets were lined with troops, the populace was undemonstrative, and order was not disturbed. The Prince left Baroda on Tuesday 23 November.
