In the first years of this century rhinos were present almost all over the Oltregiuba and on the right bank of the Webi Shebeli at least all the way from Bulo Burti to the Giuba. Some survive certainly in the thick bush bordering the swamps of the lower Webi Shebeli.

The last positive record from north of the Webi Shebeli is from the southern part of the El Bur District towards Harardera in 1952, when three were seen by a policeman on duty service.
