In 1920, highlands on road to Laos, hills behind Quang Tri. We even came across, at night, a two-horned rhino (R. sumatrensis), an almost extinct beast.

On the way to Xieng-Khouang in 1920's. We heard that an important old lady, the widow of the late chief, had the head of a rare two-horned rhino, taken in the neighbourhood 15 or 20 years earlier. The last of a species formerly common in the area. Specimen was examined. It was a fine skull with the biggest double horn I have ever seen in the species. Nonghet, means Hole of the rhino.
