The crash of rhinos: preventing the extinction of an iconic species

Note
Location World Subject General Species All Rhino Species

The Crash of Rhinos is now available at Amazon.com. The title is a play on words; a ‘crash’ being the collective noun for rhinos, but it also describes the carnage wrought by poachers in Africa who, as you may know, have slaughtered more than 10,000 rhinos — three a day— in the past decade to feed the seemingly insatiable demand for rhino horn in some Asian countries.

The book tells the story of the creation and the progress of The Australian Rhino Project which plans on bringing rhinos from Africa to Australia to keep them safe and, hopefully, prevent them from becoming extinct.

Sadly, the world’s diminishing rhino population continues to be decimated by poachers. One reviewer described the book as, “An insightful, frustrating, humorous and humbling story that will make you laugh, cry and tear your hair out in exasperation.” Dame Jane Goodall and George Gregan AM have kindly written forewords for the book.

As a family, we proud that the proceeds of sales of the book are directed to the all- female anti-poaching group, the Black Mambas – see https://www.blackmambas.org/sponsors--partners.html

One of our daughter Hayley’s friends, Pippi, sent her this note, ‘’Hayley, my grandmother is reading her "Crash of Rhinos" book. This is massive as she was once such an avid reader but for the past six months has hardly picked up a book and keeps saying she wishes she would just die. (Morbid, I know, but she is 91 and stuck in a nursing home in Queensland with no family around and we can't visit!). Please let your Dad know how happy it has made our family that she is reading again.’’
