There is a 7-10 % mortality every year by natural death and poaching. 1993 recorded 93 deaths.
Large part of the savannah are subjected to annual control burning during the winter months which arrests the further progress of vegetation succession towards woodlands and retains its present format of an ideal habitat for terrestrial fauna.
