White Rhino (simum)
In September 1994, white rhino were counted by helicopter. A total of 1214 white rhinos were seen. At the same time a transect method ground count was done. The population is estimated at about 1800, minimum 1435, maximum 2175. This represents a slight decrease since the count in 1991 of 2000, which is not unexpected as many rhinos have been translocated since 1991. Calves represent 14 % of the population.
