The book represents a very rare and important document concerning the history of geo-palaeontological research in Siberia in the second half of the XIX century carried out by Mavra Pavlovna Ivanova Cherskaja, geologist and wife of the most famous Ivan Dement'evich Chersky (1845-1892) - one of the most prominent European scientists - who investigated, in addition to much other, the remains of the "woolly rhinoceros" Coelodonta antiquitatis (Blum.) as well as of Stephanorhinus kirchbergensis (Jäger) in the Siberian Far East.
