The main topic of discussion was what should be done with the doomed animals in the case of Sumatran rhino? It was then decided to launch a programme to capture individual rhinos from doomed areas for breeding in captivity.

1986 AsRSG meeting in Jakarta. Since 1984, Indonesia has captured 5 animals (3/2) while Peninsular Malaysia captured 5 females, of which one was sent to Thailand as a gift. A pair had been sent from Indonesia to Howletts and Port Lympne Zoo, UK. Eventually, Khan hopes to have captive animals in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, United Kingdom and USA.
