Survey August-October 1987 - Ceratotherium simum. Total sample 28, excluding 2 unclassified individuals. Sample comprised 16/7 adults, 1 subadult male, 2 subadult female, 2 unsexed juveniles. Recorded in regions A (32.1 %), B (39,3 %), C, D. The 1987 aerial count of 1017 white rhino in KNP was 13.7% lower than that of 1986, which may represent an undercount in the southern district rather than a valid population trend. A 46.7% increase was recorded north of the Orange River where 81 rhinos were counted.

Social units: 6 lone adult male, 4 bachelor groups, one of 3 adult male and two of 2 adult male, 1 pair of adult female and subadult male, 1 pairs of adult female and subadult female, 1 pair of adult female with juvenile, 1 pair of adult female and juvenile accompanied by 1 adult male, 1 association of 2 adult female and 1 subadult female.
