The rhinoceros (Rhinoceros cucullatus Wagner), which according to v. Heuglin (p.93) in 1875 still occurred on the eastern, northern and western slopes of the abyssinian mountains and northward up to the area of To-Kar (not far from the present harbout Port Sudan on the Red Sea), is now totally gone from Eritrea and North- and N.W. Abyssinia. According to my information, the northern border of its range in Abyssinia would be near Lake Tana.
