There are 11 adult white rhino and 2 calves within the Hluhluwe Reserve.
Ceratotherium simum. A recent census of these animals was carried out in October 1933, when 134 were seen inside the Umfolosi Reserve and 72 outside during five days operations.
Two white rhino were found dead, poisoned by arsenic administered by aeroplanes (in a locust control operation). We found another young white rhino dead in the Umfolosi Reserve in April 1934. Cause of death unknown and the carcass was too decomposed for examination. No deaths from shooting have occurred during the year.
