The plate shows the Pantjaboe Gadjah, a spear that falls down used in the Kota to kill elephant, rhinoceros and other game. Only those laces are suitable for this device where there are two heavy trees at a distance of 1 ? meters at each side of the trail where the animal used to pass. Between the trees, a pit is dug on the trail and on top of the pit are placed branches, which are covered with dry leaves. Before and after the pit the hunter will place big pieces of wood on both sides to froce the animal to step on the branches. The spear hangs just above the pit and consists of a tree trunk of aboyt 3m length and 20 cm thickness, to which is attached a sharp pointed bamboo-majen.
