Near Ngorongoro, March 1891. We crossed two large rivers which flow into the Manyara and continued in the valley between the lowland and the Simangor Mountain. Game was numerous, with especially many rhinoceros. They were visible through the flocks of white birds which were flying around their back.
Near Ngorongoro - Feb 1891. There were great numbers of game and I often heard shots: a rhinoceros had attacked the caravan in blind anger.
Among the game there were the borad backs of the rhinoceros. Although I am not much of a hunter, that day I shot 1 gnu and 3 rhino, and the latter were left for the Maasai.
The next day we came to the Tarangire River. On the other bank there was a dead rhino, which had been killed by some lions.
