Fauna Conservation Ordinance, 1963 (Act No. 11 of 1963) came into force on 15 July 1964. Sumatran rhino completely protected. Maximum penalty five years imprisonment and a fine of $5000

Very occasionally tracks are reported. The last time an animal was seen by a member of the Forest Department was in 1957.
