That region now occupied by the Upemba park was once inhabited by the rhinoceros as were other large areas in the Katanga province. Due to slaughter these great ceatures have parctically vanished.

Mr Grauwet was hopeful that in his explorations he might one day locate the last of the species because not so long ago he discovered spoor, which, while by no means fresh, must have been made in comparatively recent times.
