A pilgrimage to the Nagas

Note
Location India Subject Distribution Species Asian Rhinos

Nagaland. Text: “Noklak is divided into six quarters, every quarter has its own morung. – A remarkable hunting trophy was displayed in the highest morung, the stuffed head of a rhino. It was captured by the grandfathers of the present generation in the valley below Noklak.” – info Peter van Ham, 03.2020: In her book „Naga Art“ Milada gives a list of her travels in Nagaland. According to that list she was in Noklak in December 1967/January 1968. This for your calculation as to when the „grandfathers“ who captured the rhino were living. However, Nagas - especially the tough Khiamniungan are - long-lived fellows. So possibly late 19th century / beginning of 20th century might be a good bet for the date of the rhino hunt. - Milada Ganguli: A Pilgrimage to the Nagas. Oxford and IBH Publishing 1984, p. 236.
