Mr. A.L. Butler wrote from Kuala Lumpur, 25 Oct 1898, ?I went to see a big rhinoceros in a pitfall the other day at Rantan Panjang. A fine big female R. sumatrensis. It was about 8 to 9 feet in length (guessed).

Mr. A.L. Butler wrote from Kuala Lumpur, 25 Oct 1898, ?I went to see a big rhinoceros in apitfall the other day at Rantan Panjang. A fine big female R. sumatrensis. [dimensions] The great thing that struck me was her extraordinary tameness. She had only been caught three days, but fed readily from one's hand, and seemed to enjoy being scratched.'
