The rhinoceros of Ta Prohm (Siem Reap, Cambodia)

1707406935

At the Ta Prohm temple (one kilometer east of Angkor Thom, Siem Reap, Cambodia) in the center of a circular arrangement in a column a rhinoceros carving is present. Also known as the “Stegodon of Ta Prohm” it has been an object of speculation by pseudo scientists.
In the Siem Reap area, there are at least three depictions of rhinos in the lower reliefs of the temple at Angkor Wat. One of these can be admired here (vide Rhinoceros tormenting the damned in the “Heaven and Hell” gallery at Angkor Wat).
