The Austrian stamp illustration represents the famous “Klagenfurt Drake” also known as “Der Klagenfurter Lindwurm”. The monument was erected in Klagenfurt in 1590 after a discovery of a rhinoceros skull not far from the town. At that time, the skull was believed as belonging to a drake, one of the most popular imaginary animals. This stamp of the country of Austria for 6,50 shs is signed A. Tuma and W. Pfeiler.
