Zoologist and professional wrestler Al Oeming operated the Alberta Game Farm from 1959 to 1980. In 1963 Thombotini (M) and Gebutuga (F) arrived from Umfolozi Preserve, Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa. At that time both animals were about two years old. After 1980 Al Oeming decided to rebrand the game farm in favor of native species. As a result, in 1983 the White rhino pair was translocated to the Zoological Gardens in Harbin, China.
