“Rhinoceros Simus” – the square nosed or White rhinoceros

On a 1836-7 hunting expedition in Southern Africa the author sketched this image and others of the game animals he encountered. Frank Howard would later draw the sketches on stone in order to be published in a number of volumes between 1840-1.
