This plate shows a single-horned rhinoceros among other wildlife.
The two Petleik pagodas – the Ashe (Eastern) and Anauk (Western) – belong to the 11th century and have been assigned to the reign of Anawrahta (1044-1077).
The “Petleik rhinoceros” refers to an exceptionally rare and historically significant artistic depiction of a rhinoceros found on the 11th-century unglazed terracotta Jataka plaques inside the vaulted corridors of the West Petleik Pagoda (Anauk Petleik Paya)
