Levaillant’s grave

1469952899

The French ornithologist Francois Levaillant (1753-1828) is famous for his travel and collecting in South Africa, as well as the production of some beautiful bird books in the early 19th century. He died in a small hamlet called La Noue in northern France. This picture shows his grave with a memorial erected afterwards by his family. I was able to visit this spot on 1 July 2016. The writings on the memorial are fading fast.
