The photo is showing Joseph Wachira comforting Sudan, the last male Northern White rhino (Ceratotherium simum cottoni (Lydekker, 1908)) on the planet, moments before its death at Ol Pejeta Wildlife Conservancy (northern Kenya). Suffering from complications of age, Sudan died on March 19, 2018 surrounded by the people who cared for it.
