A carved rhino horn cup
India, dated by inscription to 1827
Shaped as a shallow bowl with raised string band on its exterior walls and supported on the back of a realistically carved rhinoceros standing upon an oval base incised with flower petal-shaped ribs radiating outward from the center; the underside incised John Howell Fecit 1827.
