Sketch of a rhino hunt in 1829 in Pekalongan, Java, Indonesia. Three rhinos, 8 banteng and some wild pigs were brought together for the occasion. From Sody 1959 Javanische Nashorn, fig. 5 (p.220) and in Sody 1941 Javaansche Neushoorn p.116 fig. 16. Apparently this was a drawing made for Sody’s work based on the story in the Javasche Courant of 1826.
The story was first published in: Anonymous 1829. Rhinoceros-jagt in Pekalongan door den Regent van Batang, Raden Adipattie Soero Adi Ningrat. Javasche Courant (Byvoegsel) 1829 November 28: 7.
Pekalongan is on the north coast of Central Java.
However, this has no illustration.
