“Rhinoceros. 9 years old. Male. March 1, 1833. Hab. Saul forest”. Drawing by anonymous artist made for Brian Houghton Hodgson (1800-1894) in the menagerie of the King of Nepal. (Zoological Society of London). – The front has a complete coloured sketch showing a rhinoceros in lateral view, first published in Rookmaaker (1979). There are at least two other outlines of the rhinoceros sketched on the same paper, very faint, and invisible in the reproductions. The main title below the animal reads: “Rhinoceros 9 years old. male. March 1, 1833, Hab. Saul forest.” Below the head: “Home Jany 42.” There are some notes written in pencil on the right side of the paper, now almost invisible but repeated on the reverse.
