The first accurate description of the black rhino by Robert Jacob Gordon included in the 1785 revision of Buffon’s Histoire naturelle by J.N.S. Allamand. This image is from the Iconographia Zoologica, preserved in the Artis Library, Amsterdam. (Iconographia Zoologica is a 19th century collection of zoological prints that was created by bringing together various collections in the library of the Dutch Royal Zoological Society Natura Artis Magistra between 1881 and 1883. )
