‘Aesop in Europe’, a collection of 40 satirical fables against Louis XIV, illustrated by Romeyn de Hoogh. Published in Amsterdam (Petzold) in 1701. Fable No.37 tells how after the death of King William of Orange in 1584, the countries of Europe (represented by the animals) fight on against France and its allies, lead by the unicorn (England) that some suggest represents the first Duke of Marlborough.
