This is a new plate derived from Adriaen Collaert’s (1550-1618) Animalium Quadrupedium. The direction of the rhino is reversed and the background simplified to palm trees. Published around 1650 by the Amsterdam publisher Claes Janszoon Visscher or his son Nicolaes Visscher I. The plate also has a small number three in the lower right corner. This print most likely inspired later variants of the Collaert motif by P. Firens and Pontano who place the animals in a simplified foreground.
