This steel-engraving uses the plate by John Campbell in the 1822 Philosophical Transactions article by E. Home. It was engraved by Woodthorpe and published by F. Milles, Theiford. Caption: “Rhinoceros”. Signed lower left “F. Woodthorpe sc.” and lower right: “29 Fetter Lane London”. Underneath: Published by J. Mills Thetford. This plate is included after p.446 in volume 2 of Goldsmith, O., 1822. A history of the earth and animated nature. New edition, vol. 2. Thetford, S.Mills. The draughtsman was Vincent Woodthorpe (c.1764-1822).
