From a series of 52 chromolithographed plates “52 Chromotafeln zu Brehms Thierleben, Säugethiere” (as stated on the former portfolio), mounted on card, which were kept loose in a portfolio and which were the colour illustrations to the first 3 vols. of the first edition of Brehm’s famous encyclopedic work on animals, and issued in instalments from 1863-1869
