Black rhino “Diceros bicornis”. Original drawing by Lucien Blancou, undated. Size 13.5 x 10.5 cm. Private collection (2010).
Lucien Blancou (1903-1983) was inspector of forests in West Africa until 1953. He was a great specialist of the biology of large mammals. He is also remembered for noticing the legendary (or real) emela-ntouka, an animal living in the swamps of Likouala in equatorial Africa (article in Mammalia).
