Black rhinoceros (male ‘Mtoto’) caught by Lutz Heck between Lake Manyara and Lake Eyazi in northern Tanzania in January 1928. It arrived in the Berlin Zoo on 20 May 1928 and was exhibited until 23 December 1943. Here shown with chief keeper Petrus Olesen. The wildebeest was Mtoto’s constant companion.
