This watercolour by Franz Anton von Scheidel (1731–1801) which measures 36 X 50.2 cm dates from 1742. It appears to be a serious depiction of the unicorn as described by the ancients. It is possible that this illustration was made for Baron Nikolaus von Jacquin (1727–1817); a respected doctor and scientist in Paris and the University of Vienna.
