Rhino Resource Center

The world's largest online rhinoceros library dedicated to assisting research and conservation efforts globally.

Our new website is now online

Thursday 20 November 2025. Beta version. The Rhino Resource Centre has unveiled its completely redesigned website, providing researchers and conservationists with streamlined access to the world’s most comprehensive rhinoceros research database.

The new platform features nearly 30,000 academic references spanning three decades of rhinoceros research, now fully searchable and organised by species, geographic location, and research topic. Each reference includes complete bibliographic information, author profiles, and direct access to PDF documents where available.

Key improvements include:

  • Enhanced search functionality across all references, authors, and research notes
  • Hierarchical organisation allowing navigation from books to individual chapters
  • Geographic mapping of research from African field sites to European zoos
  • Subject categorisation covering anatomy, conservation, ecology, and genetics
  • Author profiles linking researchers to their complete publication history

The platform covers all rhino species, including the critically endangered Javan and Sumatran rhinos, alongside extensive historical and fossil research. Users can filter content by publication type, year, and PDF availability whilst preserving important research annotations.

Researchers can now explore complex relationships between publications and track research trends across different rhino species,” notes the development team.

Rhinos have complex social lives

Far from being solitary brutes, rhinos display surprising social intelligence. They communicate through an elaborate system of scent marks, vocalisations, and shared middens (dung piles) that serve as community message boards.
